Thermoforming Plastic -

Thermoforming is a generic term for the manufacturing of plastic components through the vacuum and/or pressure forming processes. A simplistic overview of the single-sheet thermoforming process consists of heating an extruded sheet of plastic and either forming the sheet over a male mold or into a female mold. Depending on what type of mold a customer selects, the thermoforming process allows the customer the ability to receive a part with the same aesthetic properties as an injection-molded part at a fraction of the tooling expense involved in injection molding.

Heavy Gauge Custom Thermoforming

We are a Heavy Gauge Plastic Thermoformer forming plastic with widths (up to 89 "), and thicknesses (up to .450"), with 3 layers, in 2 material structures (ie: A.B.A. capability). We form sheet with ASA (Acrylonitrile \ Styrene \ Acrylate Copolymer), Korad film & Acrylic capstocks.

We also form parts in the following materials:

  • HIPS - High-Impact Poly Styrene
  • ABS - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
  • HMW-HDPE - High Molecular Weight-High Density Poly Ethylene
  • PP - Poly Propylene
  • TPO - Thermo Plastic Olefin
  • TPU - Thermo Plastic Urethane
  • PVC - Poly Vinyl Chloride
  • PETG - Poly Ethylene Terephthalate (high-impact, co-polyester)
  • PC - Poly Carbonate / Lexan

* Most resins are available in UL or FDA compliant grades.

Thermoforming Processes

We use 3 different Thermoforming Process to form our plastic products.

  • Vacuum Thermoforming
  • Pressure Thermoforming
  • Twin Sheet Thermoforming
These plastic forming processes are each unique in their own ways, and all have different advantages and disadvantages for your project. Our products are all custom and unique, and our Project Engineer Coordinator assigned to your specific program will work one-on-one with your company to find the right process for your project. We also have published Basic Design Guidlines to help with the basic engineering of the thermoformed part.

For further understanding of the thermoforming and twin sheet processes, please reference the "Forming Capabilities" section of our web site.
