ENGINEERING

Spencer Industries is supported by a dedicated team of Project, Design and Manufacturing Engineers who guide your thermoforming program from initial concept through full production and ongoing maintenance. We work side-by-side with customers to deliver high-quality plastic thermoforming solutions, managing every stage — conceptual design, prototyping, tool machining, first article approval, and full production launch.

Our engineering team develops highly engineered thermoform solutions, whether you require new product design, reverse engineering, specification matching, or assembly innovation. Using 3D design software including CREO and SolidWorks, we ensure your custom vacuum formed plastic parts are manufactured to the specifications with consistent, repeatable quality.

Each project is assigned a dedicated Project Engineer to oversee timelines, specifications, and communication. Our in-house tooling and design team can create 3D printed tools for sampling and short runs. Our aluminum production tooling is engineered with water lines and vacuum systems to ensure world-class thermoforming performance. 

Extrusion

Spencer Industries’ vertical integration gives us complete control over material production from start to finish. With three in-house extrusion lines, we process ABS, TPO, HDPE, and HIPS, with co-extrusion capabilities available to meet advanced performance and aesthetic requirements. By manufacturing sheet internally, we maintain full oversight of formulation, quality, and scheduling — ensuring consistent, high-performance materials tailored to each application.
 
This integrated approach delivers real advantages for our customers, including reduced lead times, improved sheet quality, and meaningful cost efficiencies. Our closed-loop regrind process supports sustainability and material optimization, while custom colors, textures, capped layers, and protective films provide the flexibility to meet exact design and performance specifications.

Thermoforming & CNC Trimming

Spencer Industries is a leader in the custom thermoforming industry dating back to 1969. We have 4 locations to support you; IN (HQ), SC, IA and OH.  Our in-house team of Regional Sales Managers and Project/Design Engineers collaborate with our customers to create custom thermoforming solutions that suit each customer’s unique needs. 
 
We are a full service custom plastic Thermoformer and specialize in vacuum forming, pressure forming and twin sheet forming parts for agriculture, UTV/LSV, golf, medical, appliance, transportation and industrial equipment markets.  Our rotary and shuttle machine sizes range from our smallest machine being 3’ x 4’ to the largest 8’ x 13’ x 36” depth of draw.  Starting sheet thickness can range from .060” to .400”.  We Thermoform multiple materials; ABS, HIPS, TPO & HDPE (extruded in-house), we also form PP, polycarbonate, ABS PC blends, glass filled TPO and clear acrylic.  Supporting our forming machines we have numerous 5 axis CNC trimming machines that provide the precision trimmed parts to meet your prints.

Spencer Industriesprovides comprehensive plastic assembly and finishing services designed to streamline your supply chain.

From hardware installation to complete kitting solutions, our skilled production team integrates metal brackets, purchased components, handles, hinges, nut-serts, and fastening devices prior to shipment. Our engineering team assists in selecting optimal adhesive bonding solutions, ensuring strength and durability across materials. For end-user applications, we assemble and package multiple SKUs into customized kits, ready for final installation.
 
Additional services include decal application, custom packaging, kitting, painting and barcode integration for inventory tracking.

Logistics Servicesfor Enhanced Supply Chain Performance

Spencer Industries shipping department provide the infrastructure needed to support your manufacturing, inventory management, and container utilization strategies.
 
Spencer Industries inventory management programs and supplier agreements ensure your thermoformed components are available when and where you need them. Our Customer Service Team will monitor supplier portals and coordinate shipments according to your precise scheduling requirements, eliminating inventory bottlenecks while maintaining optimal stock levels. Spencer Industries can also manage finished goods inventory at our manufacturing locations to support your demand and enhance speed to the manufacturing plant.
 
Spencer Industries utilizes returnable packaging which is an environmentally friendly service and saves money. Returnable packaging gives our customers an opportunity to replace expendable dunnage with durable plastic returnable pallets, sleeves and tops.
